Soundtrack to My Life

Steph sent me a survey that asks what songs would be included if my life were to be transformed into a motion picture. It's really hard to come up with that *one* song for the categories bccause as you get older your taste develops beyond the typical sticky bubblegum Top40 crap.

Edit: Turns out I got a song in the wrong category. And hell, I felt like adding a couple more on the list for fun. And as requested by J, my love, I have posted links!

1.The opening title
Don't Rain on My Parade - Bobby Darin

2. The scene where you’re waking up to your alarm
Woo Hoo - The 5.6.7.8.'s

Changes - David Bowie

8. The scene when you feel obsessed with someone

Heartstopper - Emilíana Torrini

9. The sex scene
Mad About You - Hooverphonic

10. The scene when you’re in your room and feeling awkward to what had happened
Wrong Impression - Natalie Imbruglia

11. The scene when you’re walking down the street by yourself (ode to a solitude standing)

21. Scene where things in your life just fall into place for the first time

Me again. Downloaded part one, waiting for part two to finish. Am LOVING the soundtrack to your life. Want to hear more of that Emiliana Torrini woman. And David Gray is depressing as ever. Antony and the Johnsons sound like a gay version of Nina Simone; the last part of that with the piano pounding makes me dizzy. Am trying to love Joni Mitchell, for Rickman's sake, for Canada, and for you, but find it hard. Bjork is still unloveable, Texas (despite the Rickman connection) is still boring. But Bobby Darin just makes up for it all. Bless you, Booby - you ain't no Babs, but you do it well. And the Wainwrights make me weep, as ever. More reviews when part two finishes.

Well, I didn't think it was possible (forgive me for doubting you, the mighty Beeb) but part two is even better than part one. Oh, the kitsch! Adam and the Ants? Gary Glitter? Sweet. Nina Simone has my everlasting affection, Bowie I already had, Portishead is creepy as ever, and I love new discoveries Jimmy Smith and Le Tigre. I especially love Francoise Hardy, whoever she might be. I didn't like the Italian music, having had enough of angry raspy Italian singers for one life time (if I hear Toto Cutugno one more time... My parents really liked him). I feel I must reciprocate somehow. I will stop spamming your comments section for one thing, while I mull over any further action.

Hahaha Booby.... Bliss! Glad you could download it OK, J. Actually, you and I share very similar opinions about some of these people. First of all, Emiliana Torrini is a fabulous singer from Iceland and she's been around for about 10 years now I think. I shall send you more tracks from her earlier works. And I thought exactly the same thing about Antony and the Johnsons...I thought it was Nina Simone to the dot, only with way scarier make-up. Now, trust me when I say this, but the Babs version of Don't Rain On My Parade gets blasted through my speakers on my uber-gay days, shy of throwing a rainbow boa over my shoulder and trying out size 11 heels.

And thank you for sharing a passion for the aged cheese in part 2. I knew you HAD to have David Bowie, but threw it in there just for the sake of it.

When you do get around to wearing a rainbow boa and size 11 shoes, I want photos. Or video, with the Streisand soundtrack in the background. Fantastic.
And that gives me an idea for reciprocation... But you'll have to wait a couple of days, since I'm busy tomorrow. What's your email, again? Or maybe I'll just post it on here...
